Fun Sports Events in Phoenix

Although the sports teams in Arizona haven’t done much lately with exception of the Arizona Cardinals, going to a sports event in Phoenix, AZ is still a great time. One of our favorite things to do on the weekends is hit Chase Field in downtown Phoenix for a D’Backs game. We also like to catch a Coyotes hockey game and hit West Gate before/after, and going to the Cardinals games are always a blast also. With the Phoenix Open being one of the most rowdy golf tournaments on the planet, plus all the Arizona State University sports games constantly going on, the Phoenix area is jam packed with sports almost every day of the year. So, if we were to design our ideal day going to a sports game, what would we do?

As we mentioned earlier, killing a night at the ball park and watching some baseball is always a great time. Chase Field is a beautiful facility that’s filled with great food, drinks, and entertaining people. One of the best parts of going to the ball park in our opinions, is exploring the downtown area around the stadium, both before and after the games. There’s a bar down the street from the stadium called Charlie’s, that’s one of our favorite pregame drinking holes. Another great spot with some rare beers on tap is an Irish bar a few blocks from the fields called McMillan’s. Whenever we grab a bite to eat before the game, we love to hit up Pita Jungle. They have some great and healthy options alongside some more greasy unhealthy options as well, so they really do have a little bit for everyone. Be warned that the Pita Jungle does not serve alcohol, so if you’re going to get some drinks before the game you’ll probably want to head to one of the 2 places we previously mentioned. After the game we like to head to either Postino’s or Hanny’s for some late night food and drinks.

When we’re not killing time watching the D’Backs game, we love to hit up West Gate in Glendale to check out the Arizona Cardinals and the Phoenix Coyotes sports teams. The Cardinals have actually been playing pretty well in the NFL while the Coyotes have not been doing too hot the past few years in the NHL. The best thing about watching these teams is the awesome restaurants and bars they have surrounding the 2 stadiums. There’s a bar called Whiskey Row, complete with a mechanical bull and all, located in West Gate that is a great place to go if you’re checking out either one of these teams. There’s a Mexican restaurant called Macayo’s ¬†about 100 feet from Whiskey Row that has delicious food with a great margarita list. After you watch the games, these 2 spots are also a great place to party afterwards. There are a few other bars and restaurants really close to each other which we haven’t checked out yet, but when we do we will definitely keep you all posted! Thanks for reading and if you have any recommendations when it comes to watching sports in Phoenix, Visit Phoenix staffers would love to hear from you! Here’s a fun video on the history of the D’Backs uniforms!
